Serves:
Ingredients
- 8 pieces of chicken (drumsticks and thighs)
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk and salt. Add the chicken pieces, making sure they are fully submerged in the buttermilk mixture. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
-
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
-
Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing any excess buttermilk to drip off.
-
Coat the chicken pieces in the flour mixture, pressing firmly to adhere the flour to the chicken.
-
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
-
Carefully place the chicken pieces in the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan.
-
Fry the chicken for about 10 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through.
-
Remove the chicken from the oil and let it drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
-
Serve hot and enjoy the crispy, flavorful Southern-style buttermilk fried chicken.
