How To Make Son of a Gun Fried Chicken
Southern-style fried chicken with a crispy crust and tender meat, perfect for sharing with friends and family.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 4 chicken thighs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tbsp hot sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 3 cups vegetable oil
Instructions
-
Make the brine by mixing buttermilk, hot sauce, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder in a bowl. Add chicken thighs, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (up to overnight).
-
In a separate bowl, mix flour, paprika, and cayenne pepper.
-
Remove chicken from the brine and let excess liquid drip off. Dredge each chicken thigh in the flour mixture, then shake off any excess flour.
-
In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil to 350°F. Fry chicken thighs for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through.
-
Transfer the chicken to a cooling rack or paper towels to drain.
-
Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauces.
