Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped apples
  • 1/2 cup stout beer
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a loaf pan.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and brown sugar.

  3. Stir in the chopped apples.

  4. In a separate bowl, combine the stout beer, buttermilk, and melted butter.

  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

  6. Transfer the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.

  7. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  8. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
