How To Make Scottish Oatcakes

These traditional Scottish oatcakes are a delicious and healthy option for breakfast or as a snack.

  • 1 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, combine the oats, flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Gradually stir in the melted butter and milk until a thick dough forms.

  4. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness.

  5. Use a cookie cutter or glass to cut out round oatcakes.

  6. Place the oatcakes on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

  7. Allow the oatcakes to cool completely before serving.
