Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Assorted holiday sprinkles
  • Royal icing for decoration

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

  3. Add molasses, egg, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, and mix until well combined.

  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a dough forms.

  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  7. Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness and cut out a wreath shape.

  8. Use a smaller round cutter to cut out a circle in the center of the wreath.

  9. Transfer the wreath onto the prepared baking sheet and decorate with assorted holiday sprinkles.

  10. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden brown.

  11. Allow the gingerbread wreath to cool completely on a wire rack.

  12. Once cooled, decorate with royal icing to create a festive design.
