How To Make Indonesian Nasi Goreng Recipe

A classic Indonesian fried rice dish with a flavorful mix of spices and vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cooked white rice (preferably chilled)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 red chili pepper, sliced (optional)
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, green beans)
  • 1 tbsp sweet soy sauce
  • 1 tsp fish sauce
  • 1 tsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp chili paste (optional)
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 2 tbsp fried shallots (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a wok over medium-high heat. Add garlic, onion, and chili pepper and fry until fragrant.

  2. Add mixed vegetables and stir fry for 2-3 minutes.

  3. Push the vegetables to the side of the wok and add the rice in the center. Break up any clumps and stir fry with the vegetables.

  4. Add sweet soy sauce, fish sauce, oyster sauce, and chili paste (if using) and stir fry until well combined.

  5. Add green onions and continue to stir fry for another minute.

  6. Serve hot, topped with fried shallots if desired.
