How To Make Indian Tofu Malai Kofta Recipe

Soft and melt-in-mouth tofu koftas in a creamy cashew sauce, flavored with rich spices.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 200g tofu, crumbled
  • 2 tbsp corn flour
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1-inch cinnamon stick
  • 3 green cardamoms
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 cup cashew paste
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 cup fresh cream
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine crumbled tofu, corn flour, red chilli powder, coriander powder, and salt.

  2. Mix well to form a smooth and firm dough.

  3. Divide the dough into 8-10 equal parts and shape them into small balls.

  4. Heat oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat and fry the tofu balls until they turn golden brown. Remove and keep aside.

  5. Heat ghee in a pan and add bay leaf, cinnamon stick, and cardamoms.

  6. Add chopped onion and fry until light brown.

  7. Add ginger-garlic paste and fry for a minute.

  8. Add cashew paste, turmeric powder, and cook for 2-3 minutes.

  9. Add fresh cream, garam masala powder, salt, and a cup of water.

  10. Stir and let it simmer until the sauce thickens.

  11. Add the fried tofu koftas and simmer for 5 minutes.

  12. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with naan or rice.
