How To Make Joella’s Banana Pudding Recipe

A creamy, rich and delicious dessert made with layers of vanilla wafers, fresh bananas, and a homemade vanilla pudding.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 2 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 20-25 vanilla wafers

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, whisk together sugar, cornstarch and salt.

  2. Gradually stir in the milk, making sure no lumps are formed.

  3. Cook on medium heat, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil.

  4. In a small bowl, whisk the egg yolks and add 1/4 cup of the thickened milk mixture to it. Mix well.

  5. Slowly pour the egg mixture into the saucepan and whisk continuously until the pudding thickens again.

  6. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla essence.

  7. In a serving dish, layer the pudding, sliced bananas and vanilla wafers. Repeat the layers until the dish is filled.

  8. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving.
