Ingredients

  • 16 Maraschino cherries with stems
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract
  • 12 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp shortening

Instructions

  1. Drain cherries and pat dry with paper towels.

  2. In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar, butter, and almond extract to form a smooth paste.

  3. Roll about 1 tsp of paste around each cherry to cover completely and place on a wax paper-lined cookie sheet.

  4. Freeze for 30 minutes or until firm.

  5. In a double boiler, melt chocolate chips and shortening together until smooth.

  6. Dip chilled cherries in melted chocolate to coat, allowing excess to drip off.

  7. Place on wax paper and let stand until set.

  8. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
