Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup deli meat slices (such as ham or turkey)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (such as cheddar or Swiss)
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh herbs (such as parsley or thyme)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.

  2. In a separate small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water.

  3. Add the yeast mixture, warm milk, and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a soft dough forms.

  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball.

  7. Flatten each ball of dough and place a slice of deli meat and a sprinkle of shredded cheese in the center.

  8. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling, pinching to seal. Place the rolls seam-side down on a greased baking sheet.

  9. Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter and sprinkle with chopped herbs.

  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.

  11. Serve warm, tearing and sharing with your loved ones.
