Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 35 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Add the cold butter to the dry ingredients. Using your fingertips or a pastry cutter, cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and vanilla extract. Pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick.

  6. Using a round cutter or a glass, cut out scones from the dough and place them onto the prepared baking sheet.

  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown and cooked through.

  8. Remove from the oven and allow the scones to cool slightly before serving.
