Ingredients

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • Cornmeal (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, heat the milk until warm (about 110°F). Remove from heat and sprinkle the yeast over the milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt. Pour in the milk and yeast mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms.

  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

  4. Grease a loaf pan and sprinkle with cornmeal. Place the dough into the loaf pan, covering it loosely with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
