Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp dried Italian herbs
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes, until frothy.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, Italian herbs, and garlic powder. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.

  3. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball and place them on a greased baking tray.

  6. Cover the rolls with the kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 12-15 minutes, until golden brown.

  8. Serve the Italian-style rolls warm with butter or as an accompaniment to your favorite pasta dish.
