  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, and sauté until they become fragrant and translucent.

  2. Add the crushed tomatoes and diced tomatoes to the saucepan, along with the dried basil, dried oregano, dried thyme, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together.

  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. Once the sauce has thickened and the flavors have melded together, remove from heat.

  5. Serve the marinara sauce over cooked pasta or use it as a base for pizza or other Italian dishes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves.
