Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups dried navy beans
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 4 cups water
- 4 slices bacon, cut into small pieces
Instructions
-
Rinse the navy beans with cold water, then place them in a large bowl. Cover with water and let soak overnight or for at least 8 hours.
-
Drain and rinse the soaked beans. Transfer them to a large pot or Dutch oven.
-
In a separate bowl, combine the molasses, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, cider vinegar, salt, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Mix well.
-
Pour the molasses mixture over the beans in the pot. Add 4 cups of water and stir to combine.
-
Place the pot over medium heat and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 3 hours or until the beans are tender and the sauce has thickened. Stir occasionally.
-
Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
In a skillet, cook the bacon pieces until crispy. Remove from heat and set aside.
-
Once the beans are done cooking on the stovetop, transfer them to a baking dish. Sprinkle the cooked bacon pieces on top.
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until the beans are bubbly and the bacon is crispy.
-
Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
