How To Make Malmö Meatball Subs

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 4 sub rolls
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 4 slices mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, Parmesan cheese, onion, garlic, parsley, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

  3. Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

  4. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of oil. Cook the meatballs until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.

  5. Transfer the meatballs to a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 15 minutes, or until cooked through.

  6. Meanwhile, warm the marinara sauce in a small saucepan over medium heat.

  7. Slice the sub rolls in half lengthwise and place them on a baking sheet. Toast them in the oven for a few minutes.

  8. Remove the rolls from the oven and spread marinara sauce on both sides. Place meatballs on one side of the rolls and top with a slice of mozzarella cheese.

  9. Return the subs to the oven and broil for 2-3 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  10. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
