  • 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, stirring occasionally, for about 30-40 minutes.

  2. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 2 minutes.

  3. Add the beef broth, white wine, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper to the pot. Stir well to combine.

  4. Bring the soup to a simmer and let it cook for 20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

  5. Preheat the broiler and set the oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source.

  6. Ladle the soup into oven-safe bowls. Top each bowl with a slice of French bread and sprinkle with shredded Gruyere cheese.

  7. Place the bowls on a baking sheet and broil for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  8. Remove from the oven and let the soup cool for a few minutes before serving.
