Ingredients

  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.

  2. Pour the buttermilk into a separate bowl.

  3. Dip the shrimp into the buttermilk, then coat them in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.

  4. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot to 350°F (175°C).

  5. Fry the shrimp in small batches for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  6. Remove the shrimp from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  7. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
