- 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh basil, for garnish
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
-
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the beef is browned. Drain any excess grease.
-
Add the marinara sauce to the skillet and stir well. Simmer for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to blend together.
-
In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour to create a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
-
Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of mozzarella cheese until melted. Season with salt and pepper.
-
In a greased casserole dish, spread half of the cooked spaghetti in an even layer. Top with half of the meat sauce, followed by half of the cheese sauce. Repeat the layers.
-
Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until golden and bubbly.
-
Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
