Serves:
Ingredients
- 4 green plantains
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Salt for seasoning
Instructions
-
Peel the plantains and cut them into 1-inch thick slices.
-
In a large frying pan, heat enough vegetable oil to cover the bottom of the pan over medium-high heat.
-
Add the plantain slices to the hot oil and fry for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until they become golden and slightly crispy.
-
Remove the fried plantains from the pan and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
-
Using a tostonera or the bottom of a cup, flatten each plantain slice to about 1/4 inch thick.
-
Return the flattened plantains to the hot oil and fry for an additional 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are crisp and golden brown.
-
Remove the tostones from the oil and place them back on the paper towel-lined plate. Season with salt to taste.
-
Serve the tostones warm as an appetizer or side dish. They are delicious on their own or served with a dip or salsa of your choice.
