How To Make Yvonne’s Shrimp and Grits Recipe

A spicy and creamy Southern dish with shrimp on a bed of creamy grits.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. peeled and deveined shrimp
  • 1 cup quick-cooking grits
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup green onions, sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 1 tbsp. Cajun seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring water, milk, and salt to a boil. Gradually whisk in grits and reduce heat to low. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 20-25 minutes or until grits are tender and creamy.

  2. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add garlic and cook until fragrant. Add shrimp, Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper and cook for 3-5 minutes or until shrimp is pink and cooked through.

  3. Remove skillet from heat and stir in sour cream. Serve shrimp over a bed of grits and top with grated cheese and sliced green onions.
