How To Make Evelyn’s Shrimp and Grits Recipe

A classic Southern comfort dish with succulent shrimp and creamy grits.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 lb of raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup of grits
  • 4 cups of water or chicken broth
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1/2 tsp of black pepper
  • 4 tbsp of unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup of heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp of olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring water or chicken broth to a boil.

  2. Add grits, salt, pepper, and butter and stir well.

  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the grits are cooked.

  4. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat olive oil.

  5. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.

  6. Add shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes until pink.

  7. Remove from heat and stir in heavy cream and shredded cheddar cheese until melted.

  8. Serve the shrimp over the grits.
