How To Make Wholemeal Cheese & Marmite Scones

These wholemeal scones are packed with cheesy goodness and a hint of savory marmite. A perfect snack or accompaniment to soup.

Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 15 minutes
Total: 30 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 200g wholemeal flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 50g unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 100g grated cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp Marmite
  • 150ml milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, mix together the wholemeal flour, baking powder, and salt. Rub in the cold butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

  3. Stir in the grated cheddar cheese and Marmite.

  4. Gradually pour in the milk, mixing until a soft dough forms. Be careful not to overmix.

  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead a few times to bring it together. Roll out to about 2 cm thick.

  6. Use a round cookie cutter to cut out scones and place them onto the prepared baking tray.

  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown and cooked through.

  8. Serve warm with butter or additional Marmite, if desired.
