Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon of dried rosemary
  • 1 cup of beef or vegetable broth

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter and olive oil over medium heat.

  2. Add the sliced onions and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until caramelized.

  3. Sprinkle sugar, salt, black pepper, thyme, and rosemary over the onions and cook for an additional 2 minutes.

  4. Pour in the broth and let it simmer for 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.

  5. Toast the bread slices until golden brown.

  6. Serve the caramelized onion sauce over the toasted bread slices.
