How To Make Basic Tomato Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until they become translucent.

  2. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add the dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.

  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.

  5. Remove from heat and let the sauce cool slightly before using it in your favorite pasta dishes or as a base for other Italian sauces.
