How To Make Brown Loaf

A dense and hearty loaf with a crispy crust, perfect for sandwiches or toast.

Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 1 hour
Total: 1 hour 15 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.

  2. Gradually add warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Mix well until a dough forms.

  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  6. Punch down the dough to release the air. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.

  7. Cover the loaf pan with the kitchen towel and let the dough rise for another 30 minutes.

  8. Bake the loaf in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

  9. Remove the loaf from the pan and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
