How To Make Lulu’s Simple White Loaf

A classic, homemade white loaf that is easy to make and perfect for sandwiches or toast.

Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 30 minutes
Total: 45 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 500g strong white bread flour
  • 7g sachet of fast-action yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 300ml warm water

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, yeast, and salt. Make a well in the center and gradually pour in the warm water.

  2. Mix the ingredients together until they form a dough, then knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes or until smooth and elastic.

  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  4. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place the loaf in a greased loaf tin and cover with the kitchen towel again. Let it rise for another 30 minutes.

  5. Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan) and bake the loaf for 30 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

  6. Remove the loaf from the tin and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
