How To Make Tamarind Barbecue Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

  • ½ cup tamarind pulp
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp dark brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt, as per taste

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, add tamarind pulp and water. Bring it to a boil and let it simmer for 5 minutes on low heat.

  2. Strain the pulp into a separate bowl and discard the seeds and fibers.

  3. Heat oil in a pan. Add minced garlic and ginger. Saute till it turns golden brown.

  4. Add ketchup, brown sugar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, and salt to the pan.

  5. Mix well and let it simmer on low heat for 5 minutes.

  6. Add the tamarind pulp to the pan and stir it well.

  7. Cook for another 5 minutes until it thickens.

  8. Remove from heat and let it cool down.

  9. Using a blender or immersion blender, blend the sauce until smooth.

  10. Serve hot or at room temperature and use as a dipping sauce or marinade.
