How To Make Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate

Time for an upgrade on the classic hot chocolate recipe. We’ve added some salted caramel flavor for that comforting and homey essence on a cold day.

Preparation: 5 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 25 minutes

Ingredients

Caramel Sauce:

  • 2cupsmilkpreferably whole
  • ¼cupbittersweet chocolate chips(Ghirardelli)
  • ½cupcaramel saucestore-bought or homemade

Hot Chocolate:

  • Sweetened whipped creamor vanilla marshmallows
  • chocolategrated, to garnish, optional

Instructions

Caramel Sauce:

  1. Prepare caramel sauce according to directions listed and allow to cool slightly. Heat milk in a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Hot Chocolate:

  1. Once milk is warm, stir in chocolate chips and caramel, and cook whisking constantly until chocolate has melted.

  2. Allow to cool slightly and serve warm topped, topped with sweetened whipped cream or miniature marshmallows, drizzle each serving with 1 tablespoon caramel sauce and garnish with grated chocolate if desired.

Recipe Notes

 

*For a richer hot chocolate, you can use up to 1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chips and mix in more caramel sauce as well if desired.
