How To Make Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix

Blend a warm comforting drink to your taste with this hot cocoa mix. Add some orange zest for a Mexican twist or a drop of mint extract for the holidays.

Ingredients

For Plain Hot Cocoa Mix:

  • 1cupgranulated sugar
  • 2tsppure vanilla extract
  • 1cupDutch process cocoa powder,plus 2 tbsp
  • 1tbspcornstarch
  • ½tspsalt

For Mexican Chocolate Cocoa Mix:

  • 1cupgranulated sugar
  • 1tsporange zest,finely grated
  • 2tsppure vanilla extract
  • 1cupDutch process cocoa powder,plus 2 tbsp
  • 1tbspcornstarch
  • ½tspsalt
  • 1tbspground cinnamon,or to taste
  • ¼tspancho chile powder,optional

For Peppermint Hot Cocoa Mix:

  • 1cupgranulated sugar
  • 1tbsppure mint extract
  • 1cupDutch process cocoa powder,plus 2 tbsp
  • 1tbspcornstarch
  • ½tspsalt

For One Cup of Hot Cocoa:

  • 4tsphot cocoa mix
  • ¾cupmilk,any milk of choice
  • cinnamon sticks,optional
  • peppermint sticks,optional
  • mini marshmallows,optional
  • whipped cream,optional

Instructions

  1. In a microwave-safe cup, stir 4 teaspoons of hot chocolate mix with 1 tablespoon of the milk until blended.

  2. Stir in the rest of the milk. Stir until the paste is dissolved in the milk.

  3. Warm in a small pot on the stovetop until steaming or in the microwave for about 1 minute.

  4. Serve immediately with any optional toppings desired. Enjoy!
