How To Make Oaxacan Rusty Nail Cocktail

Have a taste of pre-colonial Latin America with this rusty nail cocktail recipe made primarily with mezcal and Drambuie instead of Scotch whiskey. The kick and warmth will blow your mind!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ozmezcal
  • ¾ozDrambuie
  • 3dashesorange bitters
  • 1slicejalapeño
  • 1cupice
  • 1orange peel

Instructions

  1. Add mezcal, Drambuie, orange bitters, and jalapeño slice to a cocktail shaker. Use a muddler or a spoon to slightly muddle the jalapeño.

  2. Add a handful of ice to the cocktail shaker, and stir or shake vigorously for 20 seconds or until the mixture is completely chilled.

  3. Run the orange peel around the rim of the glass. Twist to express the oils, and place it in the glass. Strain the chilled cocktail mixture on top of the orange peel.

  4. Serve immediately.
