- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp thyme
- 3/4 cup shredded gruyere cheese
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 eggs
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the bacon. Cook until crispy, then remove and set aside.
-
In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Add the onions and stir until they start to soften.
-
Sprinkle the brown sugar over the onions and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are caramelized and golden brown.
-
Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the thyme, salt, and pepper. Set aside to cool slightly.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and heavy cream. Season with salt and pepper.
-
Place the pie crust into a tart tin or pie dish. Prick the base with a fork.
-
Spread the caramelized onions evenly over the pie crust. Top with the crispy bacon and shredded gruyere cheese.
-
Pour the egg and cream mixture over the top.
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the tart is set and golden brown.
-
Allow the tart to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
