Cooking: 30 minutes
Total: 45 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups golden syrup
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1/4 cup double cream
  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9 inch baking dish.

  4. While the crust is baking, in a saucepan, heat the golden syrup, lemon juice, and lemon zest until it starts to bubble. Remove from heat and stir in the double cream.

  5. Once the crust is done baking, pour the treacle mixture over the top. Spread it out evenly.

  6. Brush the beaten egg over the top of the tart bars.

  7. Bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown.

  8. Allow to cool completely before cutting into bars. Serve and enjoy!
