Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups of milk
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Ground nutmeg or cinnamon (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C) and place four ramekins in a baking dish.
-
In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until steam rises from the surface. Do not let it boil.
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
-
Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent scrambling the eggs.
-
Strain the custard mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a jug or a bowl with a spout.
-
Divide the custard evenly among the ramekins. Sprinkle with a pinch of ground nutmeg or cinnamon, if desired.
-
Carefully pour hot water into the baking dish, around the ramekins, creating a water bath.
-
Bake for 30 minutes or until the custard is set around the edges but still slightly jiggly in the center.
-
Remove the ramekins from the water bath and let them cool to room temperature.
-
Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight to allow the custard to fully set.
-
Serve chilled and enjoy!
