Preparation: 10 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 30 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon flavored extract (e.g. peppermint, cherry, etc.)
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or greasing it with cooking spray.

  2. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar has dissolved.

  3. Increase the heat to high and bring the mixture to a boil. Insert a candy thermometer into the mixture and continue to boil until it reaches the hard crack stage, which is around 300°F (150°C).

  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the flavored extract and food coloring, if desired.

  5. Carefully pour the hot candy mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading it out evenly.

  6. Allow the candy to cool and harden completely, at least 20 minutes.

  7. Once the candy has hardened, break it into small pieces or use a hammer to create desired shapes.

  8. Serve and enjoy!
