Got a sweet tooth? Satisfy that craving for something sweet as you follow these candy recipes! They’re the least messy of the bunch, and the best part? You can take your candy wherever you go! Great idea for those who need their sugar intake checked.

Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 45 minutes
Total: 1 hour

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: flavored extracts or food coloring for different flavors or colors

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves.

  2. Add butter to the mixture and continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the mixture reaches 260°F (hard-ball stage) on a candy thermometer.

  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract (and any additional flavored extracts or food coloring, if desired).

  4. Pour the hot mixture onto a greased baking sheet or marble slab. Allow it to cool until it’s cool enough to handle.

  5. Grease your hands with butter or vegetable oil and start pulling the taffy. Pull and stretch the taffy until it becomes light in color and gets a glossy appearance.

  6. Shape the taffy into long ropes and cut into bite-sized pieces using greased scissors or a pizza cutter.

  7. Wrap each taffy piece in wax paper or place them in individual candy wrappers.

  8. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
