Ingredients

  • 2 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and milk together. Add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.

  4. Transfer half of the dough to the prepared cake pan and press it evenly on the bottom.

  5. Arrange the sliced apples over the dough in an even layer. Sprinkle with cinnamon.

  6. Crumble the remaining dough over the apples, covering them completely.

  7. Bake for 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

  8. Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes before removing it from the pan. Serve warm or at room temperature.
