Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup milk
  • Red food coloring
  • 1 can vanilla frosting
  • Assorted candies (for decorating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a cake pan.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.

  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.

  5. Stir in red food coloring until desired color is achieved.

  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.

  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  8. Allow the cake to cool completely before removing it from the pan.

  9. Once cooled, cut the cake into the shape of a fire engine using a template if needed.

  10. Frost the cake with vanilla frosting and decorate with assorted candies to resemble the details of a fire engine.
