  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking pan.

  2. In a large bowl, mix together the melted butter, sugar, molasses, and hot water until well combined.

  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt.

  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.

  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.

  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. Allow the gingerbread to cool before serving.
