How To Make Chocolate Peppermint Shooting Star Cake

- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup hot water
- 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candies
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1-2 tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp peppermint extract
Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a shooting star-shaped cake pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

In a separate large bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in eggs, one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.

Gradually add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with buttermilk.

Stir in hot water until batter is smooth. Fold in crushed peppermint candies.

Pour batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.

Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack.

In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and peppermint extract to make the glaze.
