How To Make Mint Chocolate Chip Cake

Treat yourself to a cooling and fudgy bite in this mint chocolate chip cake that layers moist chocolate base, buttercream, and chocolate ganache.

  • 1pkgpillsbury® purely simple chocolate cake mix

For Mint Chocolate Chip Buttercream:

  • ¾cupbutter
  • 3cupsconfectioner’s sugar
  • 2tbspmilk
  • ½tsppeppermint extract
  • 3dropsgreen food coloring
  • ½cupsemi sweet mini chocolate chips

For Mint Chocolate Ganache:

  • cupssemi sweet chocolate chips
  • 6tbspbutter,softened
  • ¼tsppeppermint extract


  1. Prepare cake mix according to package directions in a 9×13-inch pan. Let cake completely cool before frosting.

Mint Chocolate Chip Buttercream:

  1. Beat together the butter and confectioners’ sugar until smooth. Add milk, peppermint extract, and food coloring. Fold in chocolate chips. Frost on top of cake.

Mint Chocolate Ganache:

  1. In a microwave safe bowl melt butter and chocolate chips for 30 seconds at a time and stir until smooth. Add in peppermint extract. Frost on top of the mint chocolate chip buttercream.

  2. Serve and enjoy.
