How To Make Cherry Cake

Whip up a flavorful batch of this moist and chocolatey cherry cake, a delightful dessert packed with walnuts and sweet-tart cherry pie filling!

  • 1tspvegetable shortening
  • 2cupsall purpose flour
  • ¾cupwhite sugar
  • ¾cupvegetable oil
  • 2eggs
  • 2tspvanilla extract
  • 1tspbaking soda
  • 1tspground cinnamon
  • 1dashsalt
  • 21ozcherry pie filling,(1 can)
  • 6ozsemisweet chocolate chips,(1 pkg)
  • 1cupwalnuts,chopped
  • 2tspconfectioner’s sugar,for dusting


  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Thoroughly grease a 9-inch Bundt® pan with shortening, then dust with flour. Shake off any excess flour from the pan.

  2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt, until thoroughly combined.

  3. Gently mix in the cherry pie filling, chocolate chips, and nuts, then scrape the batter into the prepared pan.

  4. Bake in the oven for about 1 hour until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out with moist crumbs.

  5. Allow to cool for 10 minutes, then invert pan and remove cake. Allow the cake to finish cooling on a rack, then sprinkle lightly with confectioners’ sugar.

  6. Serve and enjoy!
