How To Make Denny s Fish and Chips Recipe

Classic pub-style fish and chips with crispy battered fish and golden fries.

  • 1 lb cod fillets, cut into strips
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 cup of beer
  • 4 potatoes, cut into fries
  • vegetable oil, for frying


  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, and paprika.

  3. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth.

  4. Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large pot over medium heat until it reaches 375°F.

  5. Add the potatoes to the oil and fry for 5-6 minutes until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and sprinkle with salt.

  6. Dip the fish into the batter and allow any excess to drip off.

  7. Fry the fish for 4-5 minutes until cooked through and golden brown.

  8. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  9. Serve the fish and chips hot with tartar sauce.
