  • 8 slices of day-old bread
  • 1 cup of fresh blueberries
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/4 cup of maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • Powdered sugar, for serving

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish and arrange the bread slices in a single layer.

  2. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

  3. Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices, making sure each slice is coated.

  4. Sprinkle the blueberries evenly over the bread.

  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  7. Remove the dish from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for 15 minutes.

  8. Bake the French toast for 35-40 minutes, until golden and crispy on top.

  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.

  10. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with additional maple syrup, if desired.
