How To Make Cranberry-Orange Scones

Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 15 minutes
Total: 30 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp of baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup of dried cranberries
  • zest of 1 orange
  • 3/4 cup of buttermilk
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Add the cold butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut it in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Stir in the dried cranberries and orange zest.

  5. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

  6. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle.

  7. Use a sharp knife to cut the dough into 8 equal wedges. Place the scones onto the prepared baking sheet.

  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown on top.

  9. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
