Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 lb breakfast sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.

  2. Mix in warm milk and melted butter until a dough forms.

  3. Knead the dough for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal portions.

  7. Roll each portion into a ball and flatten it into a disk.

  8. Place a spoonful of cooked sausage and a sprinkle of cheese in the center of each dough disk.

  9. Fold the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal.

  10. Place the kolaches on a greased baking sheet and brush the tops with melted butter.

  11. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

  12. Serve warm and enjoy!
