How To Make Sourdough English Muffins Recipe

Homemade sourdough English muffins with a crispy exterior and soft interior.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal
  • 1 tsp baking soda

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the sourdough starter, milk, sugar, salt and flour until the dough is smooth.

  2. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it rise until doubled in size, about 4 hours.

  3. Stir in the cornmeal and baking soda until well combined.

  4. Heat a griddle or heavy skillet over medium heat.

  5. Form the dough into 8 equal sized pieces and flatten them into rounds.

  6. Cook the muffins on the griddle for about 5 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy on the outside and cooked through on the inside.

  7. Cool the muffins on a wire rack for a few minutes before enjoying with your favorite toppings.
