Ingredients

  • 4 crumpets
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Toast the crumpets until golden brown and set aside.

  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and mustard powder to make a roux.

  3. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth and thickened.

  4. Stir in the shredded cheese and Worcestershire sauce, until melted and well combined.

  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  6. Place the toasted crumpets on a baking sheet and spoon the rarebit sauce over the top.

  7. Broil in the oven for 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly and lightly browned.

  8. Serve hot and enjoy!
