How To Make Crumpets Recipe
A classic British breakfast treat, crumpets are soft, fluffy, and perfect for serving with butter and jam.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon yeast
- 1 1/4 cups warm milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- Butter or oil for cooking
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, and yeast. Make a well in the center and pour in the warm milk. Stir until combined and let it sit for 10 minutes to activate the yeast.
-
In a separate bowl, mix together the salt and baking soda. Add this to the flour mixture and stir until well combined. Cover the bowl with a clean dish towel and let the batter rise for 30 minutes.
-
Preheat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat. Grease the pan with a small amount of butter or oil.
-
Spoon about 1/4 cup of batter onto the greased pan for each crumpet. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until bubbles start to form on the surface. Flip the crumpets and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
-
Remove the cooked crumpets from the pan and repeat with the remaining batter. Serve warm with butter and jam.
