This spicy chili dog recipe tastes like it came right from Dairy Queen’s take-out window! Top with shredded or grated cheese if desired to complement the rich spicy flavors.

How To Make Copycat Dairy Queen’s Spicy Chili Dogs

  • 1 oz extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 onion (chopped, plus extra for topping)
  • 2 garlic cloves (chopped )
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 ½ cups ketchup
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tbsp yellow mustard
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 4 all-beef hot dogs
  • 4 hot dog rolls
  • 1 pickle (sliced)
  1. Add olive oil in a frying pan and heat on medium.

  2. Add chopped onion and garlic and cook, stirring for about 5 minutes.

  3. Stir in ground beef, cooking for about 10 more minutes.
  4. Stir in ketchup, chili powder, and mustard. Simmer for 15 minutes or until the mixture is thickened. Season with salt and pepper.

  5. Boil hot dogs in a simmering pot of water for about 6 minutes. Remove and pat them dry.

  6. Place hot dogs in buns, then ladle chili over the top.

  7. Sprinkle with onions and pickle slices for extra flavor and serve.
